Watermelon Jello Pink Ribbon (CDMX Residency 2023)

Strawberry jello, one metre of pink ribbon, an orange paper flower, pastel candies, plastic containers, avocados.

During my residency at El Sur, I've created a series of pieces that have visualized my walks around Mexico City. During these walks, I've taken photographs, collected objects, ephemera and trinkets that spoke to me on a visceral level. Being guided by sensations of colours and textures, these objects and photographs are collaged together into layered compositions along with content from my personal archive.

Fascinated with the shopping experience in CDMX that is so loaded with visual stimuli, everything is calling for your attention. Different aspects of daily life collide with one another. Strawberry jello, one metre of pink ribbon, an orange paper flower, pastel candies, plastic containers, and avocados are all being sold next to each other. There is so much to look at constantly. These pieces are meant to excerpt the energy of that experience, the beautiful, saturated, palette of CDMX.
