Hang Me Out To Dry

This past winter I taught myself how to sew and started working with fabric and textiles to create what I call "textile collages." In my other arts practice, I work in digital media and collage, where most of my projects end up being digital. Since sewing is such a physical medium, it felt really good working with my hands, making mistakes, and learning through the process of making. It was like improvising on the spot, and making decisions intuitively. I created this series of collaged textiles or quilts where I’ve digitally printed artwork that I designed on the computer using paint textures, and then collaged the pieces into large quilts. The final artwork became this interesting marriage of the hand with the machine - the digital with the tactile.
